The bright red colour of Litchi often grabs my attention.Litchi is a nutritious fruit with explicit health benefits it contains vitamin C,B and A also beneficial in increasing blood cells.
But how a fruit turn to curse for innocents in Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
What happen in Bihar
Malnourished children lacks glucose reserves in their liver. But the disease is not just hypoglycemia' its is "Hypoglycemic Encyphlopathy". The toxic substance for brain cells are amino acids but blocked by the external stimulus. when fatty acid oxidisation is blocked amino acid accumulate and cause encyclopaethy said a well known paediatrician T. Jacobe Jhone in his article in Indian Express, July 3.

What happen in Bihar
The sudden outbreak of AES(Acute Encephylitis Syndrome)caused death to more than 150 Muzafferpur issue is related with this fruit.
Encyphalitis is a kind of neurological disease that causes brain swelling, confusion, disorientation, inability to talk, and more often coma. It can be caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi.
What actually cause death:
The first case of (AES) was recorded in 1995 in Muzafarpur. The high temperature and scarcity of rain brings humidity in the region. In this case the children within the age group of 5 to 15 were relied on fallen litchi and avoiding night meals. Methylenecyclopropyl-glycerine (MCPG), a found in litchi fruit has been shown to cause low blood sugar 'hypoglycemia'.

Socio- economic factors:
The parents were labours and agriculture workers. Though they were benefited with govt. schemes like Ration Cards(They can get grains, soybean, flour, oil every month.), Cards for Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojna, Ayushman Bharat, Kanya Uthan Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Matruvandhna Yojna. But many of them did not know how to use these schemes.
