Odisha ka hai Rosgola- ओडिशा का है रसगुल्ला (रोसगोला)

Odisha ka hai Rosgola

One piece out from a bowl of syrup and a piece of soft, juicy and spungy rasgulla in. The one  that leads to a mesmerising smile. Yes this is 'Rasgulla'. Or you can now say it 'Rosgola' as it has got G.I tag.

What is that G.I tag?

According to the World Intellectual Property Organisation "A Geographical Indication (G.I)is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess special qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin."

Yummy Rasgullas

  •  In india G.I was introduced in 1999 under Registration and Protection act it says 'Any product found in perticular place if claimed to have identity from another will be considered illegal.
  •  Odisha ka Rosgola was in Bangali's favour in a court order in 2017 they decided to celebrate 14 November as 'Rosgulla Divas' but the battle is won by Odisa on 29 july,2019.
  • Darjiling tea was the first product in 2004 got G.I tag. The G.I identification lasts for 10 years.

Historical references of Odisa ka Rosgola:- One of the definition from 'Ajodhya kand' says 'After Lord Rama left for the forest, Bharata and Satrughna went to bring him back and on their way, accepted the hospitality of sage Bharadwaj. The sage served them and their followers various types of food and delicacies which included dudha chhena (cottage cheese prepared from milk) and the products from chhena namely chhenapuri, chhenaladu, rasagola and rasabali.

The 1893's poem 'Bali Jatra' has reference as Sweets shop are looking attractive in presence of Rasogola and sweets.

How can this be beneficial for Odisha?

  1. Odisha will get special brand on Rusgulla's.
  2. Tourists will come to see the speciality of the place.
  3. And the price and importance of the Rosgulla's will gradually increase.
